How It Works

Three steps, one contact.

1

Tell us about the day

One form, about five minutes. Date, place, headcount and what you are picturing.

2

We match the artists

You get a written proposal back within response window: who is doing what, what it costs, and what we need from you.

3

We show up and make it

One contact through the whole thing, from the first email to the last box carried in.

The Studio

Why a studio instead of four vendors.

A Kind of Majik backs independent artists with the things none of them can get on their own: professional photography of their work, a place to sell it, and the coordination that keeps an event on schedule.

That is why the quality holds across four very different crafts, and why keeping four vendors in sync is not your problem.

The Studio

A studio built to make independent artists viable.

A Kind of Majik was started by Juan and Tina on a simple observation: the hardest part of selling handmade work is almost never the work.

Four people who are very good at what they make can each spend years stuck at the same wall. Nobody can photograph their own work well enough to sell it. Nobody wants to build a storefront. Nobody has time to market on top of a full time job and a family. The craft is ready long before the business around it is.

Majik exists to carry that part. Each one is an artist in their own lane, in their own craft. They keep their own name, their own work and their own customers. The studio supplies the three things none of them could get alone.

What the studio provides

Three things, and they are the hard three.

Photography

Every piece, every order and every event is photographed properly. Handmade work does not sell from a phone snapshot on a kitchen counter.

A place to sell

A storefront, an order path and a way to take a deposit, so an artist can say yes to a customer without building a website first.

Reach and coordination

Marketing that puts the work in front of buyers, and the scheduling that keeps a multi artist event on time.

The model

Modular by design, and honest about stages.

A lane plugs in when an artist is ready and pulls out when they outgrow it. That is the point. An artist who builds enough of a customer base to stand alone is supposed to graduate, not be held.

Chocolate

Art & Prints
Booking corporate events, working the fair circuit, selling prints.
Custom Metal

Photography

Why this is on the pageSaying the stages out loud is a trust signal, not a weakness. Pretending four new lanes are all equally ready is how the two least ready ones fail publicly in month one.

For artists

Make something people should be buying?

Majik takes on a small number of new artists a year. If you build, bake, print, weld or shoot something good and the business side is what is stopping you, tell us what you make.

Why chocolate and not treatsCustom treats competes with every home baker with a Facebook page. Chocolate confections for events and corporate gifting is a category she can own locally, and it is what people actually search: chocolate covered strawberries near me, custom chocolate favors, corporate chocolate gifts. Confections also moves the price. A chocolatier charges more than someone selling dipped pretzels, for the same product.
One cautionChocolate dipped everything is a great tagline and a bad menu. She still needs a defined list with prices, or every inquiry turns into a custom conversation and her hours disappear. Own the category, sell a specific menu inside it.

For companies

Handled properly

Chocolate, in Florida.

Heat is not a footnote in this business, it is the whole operation. Every order comes with delivery timing, storage instructions and honest advice about when to set the display out.

Delivery windows
how close to the event she delivers, and whether she will deliver to an outdoor venue
Storage
refrigeration guidance and how long a display holds at room temperature
Outdoor events
what she will and will not send to an outdoor event in summer. Say it plainly.
Shipping
insulated packaging and cold packs, and what that adds to the cost
This is a real operational risk, not page fillerChocolate blooms and softens fast in a car, a lobby or a table in the sun. A melted order is a refund and a bad review in the same afternoon. Shipping chocolate through a Florida summer needs insulated packaging and cold packs, which changes the margin on every corporate box and should be priced before anything is promised. Putting this on the page reads as expertise, not as a warning.

Made safely

Licensed kitchen, labeled orders.

Where the food is produced, under what license, and the ingredient and allergen label that ships with every order. Venues, corporate buyers and any parent with an allergy in the family will look for this.

Kitchen
cottage food or commercial kitchen status, plus the license number once issued
Labeling
confirm every order ships with a full ingredient and allergen label
Allergens
shared kitchen statement covering milk, soy, wheat, peanuts and tree nuts
BlockedThis block does not publish until licensing is complete. Note that chocolate carries milk, soy and frequent tree nut and peanut cross contact, so the allergen line matters more here than it would for a plain baked good.

Two mistakes to avoidOne. A single Contact button loses three buyers out of four. Nobody fills out an inquiry form to buy a twenty five dollar print. Two. Corporate imagery and corporate language sit above the fold. The fair schedule sits lower down, where it reads as range rather than as a different business.

Custom metal, designed and built by hand

JC designs and fabricates one off metal work for homes, venues and designers across confirm geography. Architectural and sculptural pieces in steel and aluminum, with lighting integrated where the piece calls for it.

A small number of commissions a year, built one at a time.

Start a commissionFor designers

Materials
Steel and aluminum. confirm whether marine and aircraft means grades of stock, or actual marine and yacht customers. In South Florida that second answer is a much bigger business.
Capacity
A small number of commissions a year. Every piece is designed and built by hand, one at a time.
Why the capacity line is on the page and not hiddenJC works in two to three hour blocks on weekends. That is bad for a job shop doing volume and fine for four or five significant commissions a year. At the high end, scarcity reads as exclusivity rather than as a limitation. Hand built, one at a time, a few a year, is exactly what a buyer paying real money wants to hear. Stop apologizing for the availability and start charging for it.

The process

How a commission works.

Design first, metal second. Nothing gets cut until the drawings are approved and the price is agreed.

1

Consultation

Tell him the space, the use and the look. Photos, a sketch, or a reference image is enough to start.

2

Design and drawings

A paid design step. You get drawings you own, whether or not you go ahead with the build. design fee

Priced from the approved drawing, so the number is real rather than a guess.

4

Slots are limited and booked in order. deposit terms

5

Build and finish

Fabricated by hand, finished to the spec agreed in the drawing.

6

Delivery and install

confirm whether he installs, or delivers for someone else to install

Charging for design is the single highest leverage change to this offerThree things happen at once. He earns revenue before any metal is cut. Tire kickers who wanted free drawings filter themselves out. And the fabrication quote becomes a decision instead of a gamble, because it is priced off something real. It also reframes him as a designer who fabricates rather than a welder who takes orders, and that difference is worth real money in this market. Every serious custom shop works this way.

Trade

Working with designers and architects.

JC builds to spec from your drawings, or designs from your concept. One point of contact, honest lead times quoted up front, and shop drawings for approval before anything is cut.

He understands that there is usually a move in date or an opening behind the schedule, and he would rather quote a longer lead time and hit it than win the job on a date he cannot hold.

Lead time

This is the channel that matters most for his laneDesigners and architects spec custom metal for their clients, they are not shopping on price because it is not their money, and one good relationship produces work for years. Three designers who trust him is a full year of work at his capacity. It is a relationship business rather than a lead volume business, which suits somebody with weekends. This section is the reason to build the page this way.

The work

Commissions and installs.

A designer will not spec an unknown fabricator. This page is the whole argument, and the images have to show finished work in a real space, not a piece on a workbench.

Stair railing, installed, shot in the space
Lit wall piece in a finished room
Gate or entry screen
Detail shot: weld, joint and finish quality
Table or console base, styled
Drawing next to the finished piece
The portfolio requirement got harder, not easierAt the consumer end, a clean shot of a finished piece is enough. At this end, buyers want to see work installed and living in a real space, and a detail shot that proves the finish quality. That means going back to photograph completed installs, which is a scheduling job rather than a studio job. The drawing next to the finished piece is a small idea with big effect: it proves the design step is real.
Portrait: JC in the shop, working

The artist

JC

JC designs and fabricates by hand, one piece at a time. He takes a small number of commissions a year rather than running a production shop, which is why nothing he builds exists twice.

Tell him what you have in mind and he will tell you honestly whether he can build it, what it will cost, and when it will be ready.

Start a commission

Questions

Commissioning a piece.

How does a commission start?
With a conversation about the space and the use, then a paid design step that produces drawings you own. Fabrication is quoted from the approved drawing.
What does the design step cost?
design fee, and whether it is credited against the build
What does a piece cost?
Every commission is priced individually from the drawing. a from price, even a rough one. A page with no number loses buyers who assume it is out of reach, and it fails to filter the ones who cannot afford it.
Can you work from my drawings?
Yes. He builds to spec from designer or architect drawings, and produces shop drawings for approval.
How long does a commission take?
Lead times are quoted with the design, generously rather than optimistically. honest range
Can you add lighting to a piece?
Yes, lighting is built into the metal rather than added on afterward. confirm the lighting type
Do you install?
confirm install, delivery, or drop off only
Do you carry insurance for work on my property?

What materials do you work in?
Steel and aluminum. confirm grades, and whether marine work is a real offer
Still deliberately missingNo mobile welding question. That goes on the page the week the trailer and the insurance both exist, and not before. The high end positioning does not change that: a service listed and not deliverable costs more trust here than it would at the low end, because these buyers have less tolerance for a missed commitment, not more.

Why this page is built completely differently from the other threeWhat Juan described is not a service business, it is a body of work. A wedding photographer sells a booking. A street photographer sells images, or sells nothing. So the hire me for your event structure comes out, and the page leads with the work and the prints. The one real service offer is below, and it is the one that fits how he already shoots.

The one service offer

Candid documentary coverage.

Conferences, corporate events, festivals, galas, openings and brand activations. Juan walks the room and shoots it the way it actually happened.

What you get

The details, the reactions, the room as it felt. Guests mid conversation, hands, light, the things nobody thought to ask for. Delivered as a gallery you can use for marketing next year.

What you do not get

Formal group shots, a posed leadership photo, or everybody look here. If you need those, you need a second photographer and we will tell you so up front.

Honest by design
Ask about coverage
Why this offer works and a wedding offer does notCorporate events, conferences and festivals hire exactly this. It is literally run and gun at someone else's event, for a fee. It asks Juan to change nothing about how he shoots and it pairs directly with Bella's corporate lane, because the same company booking a live artist for a holiday party needs somebody documenting it. The "what you do not get" panel is not a weakness. It qualifies the buyer in one paragraph and it makes everything else on the page more believable.

Prints

Work you can hang.

A recognizable South Florida place, shot honestly
Objects and detail
Street frame, people unaware
Architecture or scenery, specific location
Water, but tied to a place people know
Night frame, neon, wet street
The one thing that decides whether prints sellGeneric scenery does not sell. Sunsets and waves are the most crowded category in print on demand and nothing about the photo being his makes a stranger buy it. What sells is place and identity. People buy pictures of somewhere they belong to. South Florida shot as a specific recognizable place, sold to people who live here and people who left, will outperform beautiful generic work every time. If he is shooting street, objects and scenery already, point the camera at places people can name.
Portrait: Juan working, from behind or in reflection

The artist

Juan

Juan shoots the way things actually look. He works fast and quietly, mostly on foot, and he is more interested in the thing happening at the edge of the frame than the thing everybody is pointing at.

The work is documentary in method and art in intent. That is the same instinct whether he is walking a street or walking a room full of guests.

Questions

Prints and coverage.

Do you shoot weddings?
No. No posed portraits and no formal coverage. If you want candid documentary photography of the day alongside a traditional photographer, that is a different conversation and it works well.
What is candid documentary coverage?
He walks the event and shoots it as it happens. No posing, no shot list, no directing. You get the details and the reactions rather than the lineup.
What does coverage cost?
half day and full day rate, delivery timeline, approximate image count
Can we license images for marketing?
confirm usage rights included, and what commercial licensing costs beyond that
Do you shoot video?
confirm stills only or video too
How do I buy a print?
store link, sizes, editions, framing and shipping
Can I commission a print of a specific place?
confirm whether he takes place commissions. This is a good product for a business that wants its own neighborhood on the wall.
Still open on this laneFour answers are still needed and one of them decides the page. Does he shoot video at all, or stills only. Has he ever been paid for photography or sold a print, and for how much. Does a body of work exist right now that could go on a page this week. And the one that matters most: is he willing to be booked at all, or is this purely prints and portfolio? If he does not want bookings, that is a legitimate answer, but the documentary section comes off and the lane produces very little revenue. Better to know now than to build a booking path nobody intends to honor.
